Chapter 18

Everyone was already up before the sun rose, and, after eating, each did their own exercises. As warriors, we often needed to start the day by stretching out our muscles, especially when traveling.

Yulan continued in her role as mentor to the little beauty, giving her a few tips. Watching my beautiful maid do her exercises was one of the things I enjoyed while we traveled together, but now that there were others, I knew that they may not be as comfortable with a big man around.

The next part of the journey was always going to be slower since the quality of the road tended towards small trails made by roaming spirit beasts. We also needed to refer to the map more often, as the road branched off at several points. Not everyone was going after the same targets.

We passed the day without incident and only heard a few distant spirit beast calls to show that we had now truly entered the forest. As sunset neared, we found a camping spot, and this time, we didn’t have the other teams close by.

“Before you can learn to use the bow, you need to build up some strength in the right muscle groups, or you will only end up hurting yourself,” Yulan was busy explaining some basics to Lanlan. “Have a rest first, then I will come to you to formally start training.”

The girl nodded and then went to rest after a long day.

I was eager to start refining more spirit pills. But when I thought that blood restoration pills no longer posed any challenge, I decided to look through the Alchemy Tome that I had to see what advanced formulas I could try.

The other beauties chatted a bit before going to rest, and very soon, the only sounds that could be heard around the camp were those of distant spirit beast calls.

As it was getting darker, I walked some distance from our camp to summon my two spirit beasts. They had not been needed so far, so I wanted to give them some exercise.

“Yao, Ling,” I called out their names as I petted the heads of the little fox and big eagle. I didn’t want to keep them confined all the time, but there was no way. Perhaps in the near future, there will be no need to hide.

The big shadow eagle especially needed to exercise. After thinking about it a little, I thought it best to let her remain, then the little three-tailed snow fox returned to the Spirit Beast Space.

“You should fly around for a while, don’t go far,” I instructed.

Although she couldn’t talk, I knew that she could understand. Before I had even turned around, I felt a gust of wind, saw the black shadow eagle soaring, and then only saw a black shadow. Shaking my head, I could only smile. I went back to the camp, knowing that I would be able to feel the spirit beast when it was time to return.

We finally reached the area where we had marked out on the map as our goal in the middle of the next day.
